Volunteer at St. Michael School

St. Michael Catholic School thrives thanks to the generous time, talents, and dedication of our parent volunteers. We believe that strong partnerships between home and school strengthen our community and enrich the student experience.

There are many opportunities to get involved—whether in the classroom, at school events, in athletics, on field trips, or through our Parent Teacher Organization. No matter your schedule or skill set, there’s a place for you to serve at StMS!

If you’re interested in volunteering, we encourage you to reach out to learn more about how you can get involved. Your support truly makes a difference!

Safe Environment Training Requirement

To ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, StMS requires all parent volunteers to complete the Safe Environment Training each year through the Diocese of Raleigh Safe Environment Program. Training must be renewed annually for all staff members and volunteers.

  • Level C volunteers, such as coaching, being a chaperone on a field trip, or substitute teaching will also require a Level C background check, which includes providing references, through the Diocese of Raleigh.
  • Level A volunteer opportunities (non-direct supervision) such as classroom helper, reading a book, class party, bulletin board, etc will not require a Level C clearance.

Please visit the Parish Safe Environment website for full details of the process and upcoming training dates. If you have questions, contact the parish office at 919-468-6100 or email safeenvironment@stmcary.org and copy safety@stmcary.org for related questions. Thank you for your support in keeping our children safe!

  • New certification: new volunteers can get certified anytime by attending the 2.5-hour introductory course. Visit the Diocese of Raleigh’s website to sign up.

  • Re-certification: renewal window is July 15 – September 15, 2025. All currently approved individuals must renew their certification to remain compliant. If this timeframe is missed, individuals will need to complete the full certification process rather than renew the shorter recertification process. To complete it, follow the instructions sent via email from Tech Support at the Diocese of Raleigh (techsupport@dioceseofraleigh.safeenvironment.org) or follow the instructions below.
