St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School

Putting Faith into Action as Servant Leaders

Service at StMS is a living expression of our faith. Following Christ’s example of selfless love, our students actively engage in grade-level buddies “Mission Experiences” that reach local families, parish ministries, and the broader community. Students learn firsthand the power of empathy, generosity, and civic responsibility.

Buddy Mission Experiences

  • PreK & Grade 8: Grade 8 leads our annual celebratory Veterans Day Breakfast to express gratitude to military veterans, featuring patriotic songs performed by PreK and Kindergarten.
  • Kindergarten & Grade 4: Students support St. Maria Goretti Catholic School in Uganda by raising funds for daily student lunches, writing letters, and exchanging cards with international pen pals.
  • Grade 1 & Grade 5: Cultivating international friendship, students write letters to their newfound "amigos" at our sister school in Honduras, while teaming up locally to collect books for the Read & Feed Book Drive.
  • Grade 2 & Grade 6: Buddies handcraft paper flowers and cards for homebound parishioners receiving Holy Communion. Grade 6 students also plan and lead the First Holy Communion Retreat for their younger Grade 2 buddies, offering personal testimonies and prayers as they prepare for their Sacraments.
  • Grade 3 & Grade 7: Students lead the Catholic Parish Outreach (CPO) Food Drive, organizing collections and assisting with the sorting and distribution of food bags for local families.
  • Grade 8: Eighth graders visit the Total Life Center in Bond Park throughout the year, bringing joy and conversation to elderly guests.

Mission Trips & Community Outreach

  • Grade 7 Downtown Raleigh Mission Trip: A dedicated experiential journey into downtown Raleigh where students learn about homelessness and addiction recovery firsthand, gaining a profound appreciation for human dignity, empathy, and local outreach ministries.
  • The Jesse Tree Advent Project: In collaboration with St. Michael Parish, StMS families participate in this Advent tradition through an Out of Uniform Day, raising thousands of dollars to purchase Christmas gifts and essential items for local families in crisis.
  • Hoops for Hope Athletic Drive: Combining sports and charity during cheer and basketball games, our community collects gift cards, monetary donations, diapers, and wipes to assist local families through A Doorway to Hope.
